We’ve brought you a list of affordable hobbies you can check out, just to blow off some steam and reboot. Besides that, hobbies also give us something to look forward to during the week, after a long week, I just think to myself “at least I’ll be at my book club on Saturday”, it’s really small moments like that, that carry us through the week. So, if you’re wondering which hobbies aren’t costly to get into, stay tuned!

1.Park runs and Running Clubs

There is a national park run organization which takes place every Saturday at 8 or 7am in 225 locations around the country. We’ll put the link to their website in the description box below so you can find out more about them. There’s no fee to pay all you have to do is show up and finish the 5KMs and if that sounds like a lot for you, you are allowed to just stroll, there’s absolutely no pressure.

2.Book or Movie club

A club made up of all your friends where you read a book or watch movies, sounds like a great idea. It’s easy to start and very cost effective depending on where you source your materials from, but the idea behind it is that you meet with your friends every week with the goal of unpacking a book or a movie, or any other form of media. You can be creative with how you make it more intentional than chilling with a group of friends and just motivate yourselves to participate and set yourself up for a good experience.

3.Theatre

If you enjoy the arts or you want to become immersed into a new form of art, theatres can be a great place to go. There are always theatre productions in different theatre houses which run over a certain period of time and watching performers perform live is such a beautiful experience which changes our perspective of acting. To stay updated on the latest theatre productions, follow theatre houses such as the market theatre in Joburg, Baxter theatre in Cape Town and other theatre houses in your area. With regards to the prices of theatre tickets, you can find out on the houses’ websites as they change and fluctuate all the time. By supporting local productions, you contribute towards our country’s growth in that industry.

4.Sports

Another way of finding a hobby near you is to check out which sports around your location have teams and how to become part of those teams. Depending on which sports you like, you can check out different clubs of that sport and find out if how they operate and whether or not they have teams for different levels like beginners teams and such. Being a part of a local sports team not only introduces you to new people, but it also ensures that you stay healthy through keeping your body active.

5. Ticket Websites

If none if these suggestions sound appealing to you, then check out Quicket and or Webtickets which are websites where event organisers from various events sell tickets. On these websites you can search for events within your area which are affordable depending on what your budget is and what you’re interested in experiencing. Sometimes we miss out on great events because we didn’t know about them so checking out Quicket and webtickets may help in that regard and hopefully you find something accessible and enjoyable near you.
